Yes, today is Tuesday and this week we have remembered that it needs a Top 5.

We try to keep our readers on their toes and mix it up as much as possible and this week is no different. Here in Sell Towers we are big fans of books, and enjoy a good novel. So, this weeks Top5 Tuesday is 'Great Book Openings'.

"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday night. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"

Trainspotting - Irvine Welsh

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

Pride & Predjudice - Jane Austen

"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive . . .' And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming, 'Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

1984 - George Orwell

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.

A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens

These are in no particular order, we think they are all great openings. And if you have any other suggestions drop them below.

So Long Scamp, And Thanks For All The Fish

Well the sad news from down the posh end of ad-blog-land is that ole Scamp has hung up his (blog) writing boots. It's a real shame to see him stop as he's clearly someone who has a passion for the business, and it was great to see that passion and interest out there in the public domain.

I can't say I always agreed with him (especially on the subject of creative awards), but it'd be a dull world if everyone agreed on everything. That goes double for this masochistic corner of the world we call adland, and I've always enjoyed his posts and the comments they sparked. So thanks Scampy, and best of luck with the new projects.

New Yorkshire Tea Ad Campaign.

Big thumbs up for the new Yorkshire Tea campaign featuring the marvellous John Shuttleworth.
It's got tea and Yorkshire at the heart of the idea. Which is why it's a brilliant ad for Yorkshire Tea. And why we love it. Hats off to everyone involved at BMB. Wish we'd done it.

Platon

Fantastic photography from Platon. His bold, graphic, black and white portrait work really stand out, a unique style he's made his own. There's not too many famous icons he hasn't captured either.

Ad Agency Bullshit Outed By Client

I got a funny note today from a client we worked with in the past who's moved on to other things (the names have been changed to protect the innocent):

"You guys came to mind when I was at [Client Company], who use [Big Ad Agency] for their above the line comms. I was in a meeting with the new CEO, who presented their new agency mantra. After much internal debate and no doubt thousands of post its and much beard stroking, they had concluded that what they and their work did was "ignite conversations". They seemed quite proud of this conclusion - it was to be the thing that would galvanize their business. I was gob smacked. Our sales were down and all I really wanted was to sell more [Product]s. It never ceases to amaze me that these big agencies still don't get it..."

And now a shameless commercial message:
If you want someone to spend your valuable cash money trying to ignite some chit chat or something, go to one of them.
If you want someone to shift some product, come to the place where Sell! is in the name. Twice.

And another thing:
If you think you might work for the aforementioned Big Ad Agency, why not get one of our smashing Bullshit Free Zone posters for the office. You never know. It might help. A bit. You know it's not a magic poster, only words on paper.

THIS IS A BULLSHIT FREE ZONE
